Badde Manors Cafe, Glebe – allergy and vegetarian friendly
I often end up in Glebe for dinner as it’s near my place, there is such a range of restaurants (including some amazing Mexican places) and the atmosphere is great. Often after dinner I go looking for somewhere to have coffee and dessert (since I cannot have anything at San Churro’s). One night my friend suggested Badde Manors Cafe, a cute little cafe which offers a number of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and nut free options. While I haven’t eaten a meal there (they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner) the menu looks amazing with options including a grilled haloumi salad, roast vegetable and ricotta salad and crispy sweetcorn capsicum and coriander cakes (vegetarian but unlikely to be gluten free I imagine!). The cuisine is a mix of food from Asia, North Africa, Middle East, Latin American and Mediterranean regions.
Anyway getting back to dessert. They have a great selection of cakes on display, of which at least three options are gluten free, as well as gelato.
I decided to go for the deliciously deadly looking chocolate hazelnut cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream as well as a Sahleb (Turkish aromatic milk – cinnamon, rosewater and honey). I was going to go for my usual choice, a chai, however I loved the sound of these flavours and had never seen it before. The Sahleb was absolutely delicious and I ordered it again the next time I went back (I may have to try making my own at home!).
My slice of cake came out and it was enormous! Luckily it also happened to be absolutely delicious.
My friend also loved her sticky date pudding which is served with cardamon toffee sauce and ice-cream.
I have already been back to Badde Manors Cafe and highly recommend it for a late night coffee and cake!
Do you have dessert after you have gone out for dinner?

I always love the cakes here – especially the sticky date, and the rhubarb cake. And the cannoli. And gelato…

Sounds like everything you have had has been good!

I had a not-so-good meal there, but I’ve read horror stories about “unwelcome ingredients” there. Watch out.

I love the gelato here…haven’t been for years though. What are the good Mexican places you’re talking about – wouldn’t mind checking them out…

I absolutely love Baja Cantina and I’ve heard Flying Fajita Sistas is also really good.
