Ancient grain & seeds Burgen bread – gluten free
I have always been told by those in New Zealand that are coeliac and gluten intolerant that they cannot get any good gluten free breads – not having brands such as Country Life. However when back in NZ I noticed that Burgen now have a range of gluten free breads (white, ground linseed, spicy fruit, corn and poppysed and ancient grain & seeds) so I decided to try the ancient grain & seeds loaf. Before buying gluten free bread I always make sure it doesn’t feel solid as a rock and the Burgen loaf passed the test.
First off I tried the bread toasted with butter (I also tried it with honey and marmalade). The bread was tasty and I really enjoyed the plentiful amount of seeds.
The real test though was making a sandwich with it a couple of days later (after storing it in the fridge). I am happy to say the bread still tasted great – I was very impressed.
From what I can see the gluten free Burgen bread is only available in New Zealand.
Do you have a test you perform on foods before you buy them?

It’s interesting to see what is available in other countries.
I noticed that there are a lot of very popular Betty Crocker gluten free cake and pancake mixes in America. Hopefully they will make their way here eventually!

Definitely – there were plenty of products I came across in NZ that we don’t get in Australia. It would be great to see gluten free products available everywhere to give us more choice!
