LARABAR
One of the first things I went looking for when traveling around the US was a bar that I could have in my handbag for when I needed a snack. I was excited to find the LARABAR range in Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s (more on these in another post!).
The LARABAR range are a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices containing 100% whole food and no more than 2 to 9 ingredients. This means that they are all gluten free!
After trying my first LARABAR (Cherry Pie flavour) I was hooked and since then I have been attempting to try all of the flavours. So far my favourites are:
- Banana Bread
- Carrot Cake
- Cherry Pie
- Coconut Cream Pie
- Peanut Butter and Jelly (which really does taste like PB&J!)
Unfortunately LARABAR’s are only currently available in the US, however maybe one day they will be available all over the world!

I Quit Sugar – Week 2
about 6 days ago - 1 comment
Here is my wrap up of week 2 of quitting sugar (this was obviously written a few weeks ago now!): So week 2 was always going to be a challenging one, but I have to say I went into it with a pretty positive mindset. So why was week 2 going to be challenging? Well

I had this post on another of my blogs… I guess I didn’t want to announce it to the whole world as I didn’t know what people would think… I know a lot of people will just think this is another fad diet but this is really working for me and over the next couple
Quail breast fillets with pasta, chilli, fresh herbs and olive oil

As with the spatchcock I received from Game Farm I wanted to make something simple with the Qual breast fillets I recieved from them. When you are cooking with such good quality meat it seems a shame to drown out it’s flavour with overpowering sauces. I therefore decided on the quail breast fillets with pasta,
Spatchcock with white wine, lemon and rosemary

With the spatchcock I received from Game Farm I decided to cook something reasonably simple and let the flavours of the bird come out. I therefore decided on the recipe from Game Farm’s website, spatchcock with white wine, lemon and rosemary. The recipe was simple and quick to prepare and the flavours were delicious. Before
Pea & ham soup

I have fond memories of pea and ham soup. My mum used to make it quite often when we were kids with a big ham bone and split green peas. The only complaint I can make is that whilst the ham slid off the bone there wasn’t enough of it for my liking. Fast forward
Magpie & Stump, Banff

Another (reasonably) gluten free friendly option in Banff is Magpie & Stump. I had wanted to try out their menu ever since going there for a few drinks one night. The interior is very well done and it has a great atmosphere. If you go just for drinks you get to de-shell peanuts on the ground (who
The Dip, GOODGOD Bar & Small Club, Sydney

I attended a food blogger dinner at The Dip, an American style restaurant located in GOODGOD Bar. It took me quite awhile to work out where it was since I was looking for The Dip and not GOODGOD but after asking the bouncer I eventually decended the stairs into the eatery. As there were so many
Duck pancakes thanks to Game Farm

I was lucky enough to receive a package from Game Farm, the largest multi-species game bird producer in the Southern Hemisphere, specialising in the breeding and processing of game birds, specialty poultry and supply of game meats. One of the products I received to try was a duck. I have to say this was rather
MUMU Grill, Crows Nest

I loved living in Cammeray because it was a short stroll to Crows Nest which contains a number of cute boutique clothes shops as well as wonderful cafes and restaurants. One of the restaurants I managed to get to whilst living in Cammeray was MUMU Grill. I received an email voucher from them for my
Earls, Canada

Earls is one of my favourite places to eat dinner in Banff and it was a winner with my family when they came and visited too. It looks quite fancy and therefore the first time I went there I expected it to be rather expensive. However I was plesantly suprised, it has a great atmosphere, reaonsable prices, great

I love Larabars, however, to get them to Australia is mighty expensive. Now I make my own! They’re so simple!
You pick your favourite dried fruit/s and nut/s, throw them into the food processor, press them into a bar shape and you have your own homemade larabar!
I find they work best if you have a 2:1 ratio of dried fruit to nuts – for example 30g dates and 15g salted peanuts to make the peanut butter cookie larabar.

That is such a good idea – what kind of blender do you have? I imagine you would need a pretty good one?

Larabars!! Lucky you! I miss those so much. They use to be available here in Australia at IGA and health food stores, but alas, no longer! I’ve contacted the company a couple of times about it.. no luck.
My favourite is the plain old chocolate. Simply beautiful!
I’m keen to try and make my own using cacao and figs and a little cashew. Just waiting on the fig tree to co-operate.

Oh really that’s interesting… I haven’t tried the plain chocolate yet – might have to do that! I wish I had a fig tree – lucky thing! Let me know how they go…

It’s less of a fig tree, and more of a fig stick.
It’ll be a little while before I’ll be able to try out the recipe. In the meantime, I’ll be thinking of you jealously! lol
