Gluten free dumplings from Bamboo Dumpling Bar
I am a sucker for daily deal sites – when living in Sydney I signed up to so many of them. To be honest I did buy a few deals that I probably didn’t need, however I did buy a lot that were very useful. Some people say that buying the food deals makes you go out for a meal when you would usually eat at home. However I would eat out anyway, these deal sites just direct me to places I have never eaten before and never thought of trying.
One of the deals I bought was a voucher for Bamboo Dumpling Bar and it is definately a voucher I did not regret purchasing. As I generally can’t eat dumplings I checked before purchasing the voucher if they had gluten free options and I was so excited to find out they did!
Don’t quote me on this as it is awhile since I went to Bamboo Dumpling Bar but from memory it is the gow gee dumplings that are gluten free meaning that you have 3 options (prawn, mushroom and vegetarian). All of them were delicious so I cannot pick a favourite – I suggest you go with a few people and get all three to try (you get 5 dumplings per plate).
If you want some vegetables with your meal ask for the Asian greens with no oyster sauce (or oyster sauce on the side if you are eating with some non coeliacs). There are some chilii sauces you can have on the side that you can dip them into which is nice.
The second time I went to Bamboo Dumpling Bar my friends decided to order dessert – who can pass by some dessert dumplings?! I hesitantly asked whether any of the dessert options were gluten free and much to my amazement the ice cream dumplings are in fact gluten free! And they were delicious, the perfect happy ending.
Not only is it great food but the servers and friendly and the decor is creative providing a topic of conversation (in case you are with less than interesting guests
).
Bamboo Dumpling Bar is located in the Royal Albert Hotel at 140 Commonwealth Street, Sydney. Check out their full menu on their website.

The Dip, GOODGOD Bar & Small Club, Sydney

I attended a food blogger dinner at The Dip, an American style restaurant located in GOODGOD Bar. It took me quite awhile to work out where it was since I was looking for The Dip and not GOODGOD but after asking the bouncer I eventually decended the stairs into the eatery. As there were so many

If you regularly read my blog then you are probably aware that I love macarons (not to be confused with macaroons – see here). The great thing about macarons is that they are naturally gluten free as the main ingredients are pure icing sugar (as oposed to icing mixture which sometimes contains gluten), egg whites, sugar

What happens when you get 25 food bloggers together for Yum Cha? Lots of food, cameras and a $643.40 bill! I was very excited to be invited along to a lunch with a number of Sydney based food bloggers as I was looking forward to finally meeting the people I read about and follow on

When I was first diagnosed with coeliac disease the best advice that was given to me (thanks to my aunt) was to join my local coeliac society. After doing a bit of research about The Coeliac Society of NSW I joined straight away. One of the things that caught my eye were the events that

What better way to spend your Sunday morning than a kayak on Sydney harbour followed by lunch and gossip at Lyne Park Cafe? Well I can tell you it doesn’t get much better! As you may have guessed that is how I spent yesterday, a leisurely paddle followed by a delicious roast vegetable and haloumi

Last Friday night my Mum asked me to go with her to listen to the jazz at Bar77 in The Grace Hotel. Bar77 only has a nibbles menu, none of which I can eat so I called out to the Twitter world for suggestions of restaurants close by. As a result of a suggestion, Mum

Happy Valentine’s Day! If you are still on the lookout for somewhere to eat tonight in Sydney how about trying Wolfies in The Rocks? I recently attended a one day training course at Wolfies which is situated in a historic storehouse and still boasts the old stone walls which are modernised by the lighting and

I am the same. I hardly ever eat out anrymoe and we don’t receive many invites for dinner either. The last time I went out was for my birthday and despite making it very clear to the waiting staff they still brought my dish out with biscuit crumbs on the plate. When I sent it back some of my friends made comments about how embarassing it was I on the other hand felt really annoyed because I wasn’t listened too. I will always return to places who go the extra mile to make sure my meal is safe to eat.A dear friend had a dinner party recently and her and her hubby actually borrowed books and researched everything to make dinner safe for me to eat Lovely!!!
