Seems that us coeliacs should stay away from here until they work out whether their food is in fact gluten free or not! Sorry to get your hopes up :(

Hi, my husband and I went to the fishermans wharf Chinese restaurant to have yum cha yesterday. Unfortunately it was abit of a waste of time. 4 out of 5 wait staff I spoke to had no idea what 'gluten free' is. We finally spoke to a man who seemed to know what gluten free was. He recommended some dishes but was not confident about all dishes. The biggest disappointment was the mango pancakes :( i was told that the mango pancakes were not gluten free and were made with wheat flour, he wouldn't even serve it to me.. I then asked which sweet dishes were gluten free and he could not answer. It was quite an ordeal. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with Coeliac disease.

Hmm that's weird - I have a feeling that the person who responds to the emails isn't that good at English (as I got an interesting worded response). The head guys that were there when I went were very helpful and spoke perfect English. The two times I have gone there I haven't had a reaction and a few others I know that went there didn't either.

Hello,
I got super excited about the idea of gluten free yum cha. I emailed the restaurant however to check and they replied saying that most of their dumplings are made out of rice flour and wheat flour. They didn't say anything about corn flour and their reply made me feel that the chances of gluten free dumplings was pretty slim! They said I'd need to ask the waiter about every item. Did anyone have a reaction eating there?

Yes you do! I found it very unusual that they would use gluten free soy and oyster sauce - I know of places that have gluten free versions there that they can use but not that they use on everything... I just wanted to be safe... I always take my own soy sauce to sushi places :)

Chicken feet - I tried them too. Poor feetless chicken is all I could think about. I loved the S&P prawns too, but only got to try 1. Glad you came along and I'm so glad you had so much food you could eat!

All of their food (including the pastry) is made out of flour other than wheat flour (rice and corn flour)!
