El Loco, Surry Hills

I noticed a few people tweeting and writing about El Loco so looked it up to see what all the fuss was about. I found out that El Loco cantina “is the first stage of what will be the next addition to the Merivale family of restaurants – an authentic Mexican restaurant.” I was intrigued, especially when I saw the menu with $5 taco’s (with the most expensive dish being $15). I immediately contacted the restaurant to see if I could eat anything and was delighted to find that the taco’s and corn chips were gluten free!

Cheeky Food Group cooking class

I was lucky enough to be invited to a cooking class for food writers and bloggers last week held by Cheeky Food Group. When I was first invited I wasn’t sure if it I would be able to attend due to my dietary requirements however I was assured that it would be no problem. The director of Cheeky Food Group, Leona, even emailed me on the day to say that the company chefs prefer using gluten free flour as they find it doesn’t clump as easily!

After being diagnosed with coeliac disease one of my work collegaues at the time told me I had to visit Wafu, a Japanese restaurant Surry Hills, where the entire menu is gluten free! I had a look at their website and noticed that they have a number of policies for dining there (e.g. do not waste food, bring your own containers for take away food etc..) and also that they basically aren’t taking new customers unless you come with a member.
